ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Be the leader you needed when you were struggling.
Casey Miller is an American author, human resource professional, and thought leader who grew up in a rural part of Southern Indiana. Casey grew up in a very unstable environment, filled with drugs, abuse, and trauma. This experience, along with the teachings from his father on business and leadership, led him to pursue a career in Human Resources — allowing him to help and protect others, as he so often felt he needed to do in his youth.
Mental health was never a topic of conversation when he was growing up. In fact, it was viewed as fake — or an excuse for people who were not living up to their full potential. Casey took these beliefs with him into adulthood and actually argued this point with others on more than one occasion.
That all changed in early 2020, when he spent years in a mental health crisis — suffering before finally being diagnosed with Somatic Disorder, OCD, and Panic Disorder. This suffering was lengthened because he refused to believe these disorders even existed, let alone could happen to him.
The experience opened his eyes to the realities of mental health disorders, and how they are ignored, judged, and even retaliated against in the workplace. These realizations motivated him to write Suffering Leadership — in the hopes of inspiring those pursuing a career in leadership to focus on the mental health of the people they are charged with leading, and themselves.
